Pole FAQs: How to prepare for your first pole class

1. What should I wear to my first pole class?

Wear comfortable workout attire that allows freedom of movement. Shorts and a tank top or sports bra are recommended to provide skin grip for certain moves. Avoid clothing with zippers, buttons, or anything that could scratch the pole. You'll also need to remove rings and bracelets and tuck in waist beads.

2. Do I need prior experience or strength to attend a pole class?

Not at all! Pole classes are designed for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced. Your instructor will guide you through warm-ups and exercises to gradually build strength. You should also consider taking other classes like BootCamp, boxing, and aerial yoga. These classes will help you build grip strength, overall strength, and flexibility.

3. Can I do the moves even if I need to be more flexible or strong?

Absolutely! Pole fitness is a journey, and everyone starts somewhere. You will build strength, flexibility, and coordination over time. Your instructor will offer modifications and progressions to suit your current abilities.

4. What can I expect during my first pole class?

Your first class will likely begin with a warm-up to prepare your body for pole exercises. You'll learn basic grips, spins, and a few beginner-level moves. Don't worry if something feels challenging at first—that's completely normal!

5. Will there be other beginners in the class, or will I feel out of place?

EQFit has classes specifically for beginners, so you'll likely be with others who are also new to pole fitness. It's a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to progress at their own pace.

6. Feeling nervous or intimidated before my first class is normal?

It's common to feel nervous before trying something new, especially if it involves physical activity. Remember that everyone in the class started as a beginner, too, and your instructor is there to help you feel comfortable and confident.

7. What should I bring to my first pole class?

Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and a positive attitude. EQFit will have alcohol spray bottles, disinfectant wipes, and clean towels on hand. We also sell water and grip if you need it.

8. Will I need to remove jewelry or wear specific shoes for pole class?

Yes, you must remove rings, bracelets, and any other jewelry that could catch on the pole or hinder your grip. Bare feet or socks are typically best for beginner pole classes.

9. How soon will I see progress in my pole fitness journey?

Progress varies from person to person, but with regular attendance and practice, many participants notice strength, flexibility, and technique improvements within a few weeks to months. Celebrate each milestone, no matter how small! You may feel nervous about recording tricks you've learned this early in your journey, but you'll want to be able to look back to see how far you've come.

10. What if I have concerns about my ability to perform certain moves or have physical limitations?

Your safety and comfort are a priority. Before class begins, inform your instructor of any physical concerns or limitations. They can offer modifications or alternative exercises to ensure you have a positive and safe experience. Our studio is inclusive—every body and everybody is welcome and celebrated.

And Remember

Pole fitness is not just about physical strength but also about confidence, self-expression, and having fun! Embrace the journey, enjoy the process, and celebrate your achievements along the way.
